The significance of Mongol Empire in the Human world
Human history could be distorted. The intentional and unintentional, distortion of history has happened in the past, present and, possibly, in the eternal future. The exact reasons for this are varied, but one important explanation is that people try to understand history from their own point of view. A respectable person to one group of people could be a sworn enemy to another; a historical and greatly influential figure to some could be meaningless to others. Someone identified as a hero in a certain era could be perceived as anything other than that in times that follow. Once we accept it as truth that self-protection and selfishness are a basic part of human nature, we will realize how hard it is to accept historical facts that could be detrimental to our own sense of self, community and culture. It is also hard to pass fair judgement on historical facts of which we have no eyewitness.
I think the history of Genghis Khan has been distorted, belittled and depreciated in many ways. Some of the ignorant accusations describe him as “the Scourge of God”, “The destroyer of civilization” or “the warmonger”. Anyone who looks at his in-depth history will inevitably discover that none of these descriptions are accurate. How could this happen? One explanation is that most of his recorded history was probably written by his enemies. In many parts of the world, it is still taboo to even mention his name, for variety of false reasons.
When we compare all the great conquerors and their empires of the past, Genghis Khan and Mongol Empire are outstanding. He was the greatest among all Emperors and no other nation, besides his Mongol Empire, had made great an impact on the world. He was the only one successful and a true victor in the end.
The size of the land he had conquered in his lifetime was 2.2 times bigger than that of Alexander the Great, 6.7 times bigger than that of Napoleon Bonaparte and 4 times bigger than the Roman Empire. Also, the Mongol Empire, which his descendants continued to expand in later times, was the bigger empire in history by the time of 2023 A.D. The actual size of the Mongol Empire was 13,754,663 square miles(the potential conquered land was 14,493,569 square miles) and the 19th century British Empire comes in second, in size, at 12,788,632 square miles.
The kingdom of Alexander the Great was torn into pieces by his generals after his death, Napoleon had been exiled to the island of St. Helena after losing the battle at Waterloo and Hitler’s glory did not last more 3years. The Mongol Empire continued to grow after the rule of Genghis Khan because of the strength of the empire he built.
The greatness of the Mongol Empire is represented by their success in opening trade between the East and the West. The most meaningful and influential items in human civilization, such as paper, gunpowder and compass had been transferred from the East to the West. Among many other important items are Arabic numerals, the concept of mathematics, astronomy and the manufacturing technic of glasses that went from the West to the East.
Marco Polo’s visit to city of Dadu (Beijing), which had marked the turning point of Western history, was made during the Kubilai Khan’s time, the golden age of the Mongol Empire. The voyage of Christopher Columbus, which introduced, which introduced the existence of the American Continent to Europeans, after all, was related directly or indirectly, to Marco Polo’s travels.
Before the emergence of the Mongol Empire, it was considered very unsafe to travel from the Italian Peninsula to the city of Dadu (Beijing) of China, in a small group, which Marco Polo, his father and his uncle made frequently.
All my books were written in the form of historical novel, and yet, 90% of its contents are based on the sensible, true history. The only elements that have been fictionalized are the area which recorded history does not tell.
Thank you very much for reading.
